Organization Name:  Holy Ghost Church
Organization Overview:  Who we are Founded in 1916, The Descendant of the Holy Ghost Church is the second largest Romanian Orthodox parish in the state of Michigan. For 34 years, until 1950 the church had been at the same location in Detroit, on Franklin Street. For 27 years, church services were performed on Lafayette Street where a Protestant church was purchased and renovated for Orthodox Liturgical use. In 1977, due to the increase of parishioners moving into the suburbs, the decision was taken to purchase a third property in Warren, MI, under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Alexandru Rasca. Two years later a fellowship hall was built and in 1985 a parish house was added. As the church had just been renovated and adapted to Orthodox requirements, the parish council members recommended in 1986 to build a new church in an Orthodox architectural style. The beginning of the construction started on the blessed site in 1988. A few years later the painting of the interior space was started by the Romanian artists Cristian and Cristina Samoila. The furnishings of the church, sculpted in Romania at Plumbuita Monastery were generously donated by John and Kathryn Vidican. The planning and construction took five years. On September 5th, 1993 in the presence of thousands of Romanian orthodox faithful members, the church was dedicated. The Liturgy was officiated by Rt. Rev. Bishop Nathaniel, assisted by the parish priest Rev. Fr. Ioan Mihut, twenty four priests and five deacons representing parishes of the Romanian Episcopate of America, the Romanian Orthodox Missionary Archdiocese of America and Canada, the Patriarchate of Romania and the Romanian Orthodox Vicariate of Virset (Serbia). Romanian and American officials were also present.
